A Fresh Coastal Retreat: Kirra Beach Renovation

A Fresh Coastal Retreat: Kirra Beach Renovation

For a laid-back, triathlon-loving family, their beachfront unit at Kirra had great bones but the clients decided it needed a refresh. Originally a worn two-bedroom, one-bathroom ground-floor unit, it lacked the space and functionality their active lifestyle demanded. The goal was clear: rework the layout to add a third bedroom and breathe new life into the space, all while preserving the coastal ease they loved.

The project involved a full internal renovation, with one of the most significant changes being the relocation of the kitchen to the north-facing living area. This clever move made room for a new third bedroom in the former kitchen zone. We introduced extensive new cabinetry throughout, including custom bathroom/laundry joinery and a sleek bar fridge nook in the living space. The bathroom and ensuite layouts were reimagined—challenging but made possible thanks to access to the basement-level drainage system.

Design-wise, the clients supplied their own tiles to create a light and coastal aesthetic. The space now features floor-to-ceiling tiling in wet areas, soft Dulux whites on walls, and a show-stopping curved stone breakfast bar clad in fluted natural tiles. A bar fridge waterfall bench and brushed gold tapware added stylish, high-end touches. External works included a new four-door stacker to the balcony, where cyclone-delayed tiling was completed without damage, despite a wild storm hitting mid-install.

Collaborating closely with the clients and our engineer, we overcame layout challenges and delivered a result that felt both fresh and timeless. One of our standout elements—the curved breakfast bar— Meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail by our local trusted stone mason, Is one of the many highlights of the project.
