Ferntree Gully, Kitchen Renovation

The renovation project focused on transforming an original brick veneer home, which featured a small, enclosed kitchen hidden behind walls and doors, a common design of its era. The main goals were to create a spacious open-plan layout, upgrade the outdated kitchen, and improve the flow throughout the home’s primary living areas.

The scope of works included removing a central load-bearing wall, supplying and installing a new set of stairs spanning the entire width of the living room, adding six skylights to increase natural light, building a brand-new kitchen, and closing off two large windows to improve functionality. These changes completely reimagined the property, delivering a bright, open living space perfect for modern family living.

Several important considerations were addressed throughout the project. Structural steel was required to support the existing conventionally framed roof, and careful planning was essential to bring the steel into the property without disruption. Another key challenge was that the family continued living in the home during the renovation. This required additional planning to ensure safety, accessibility, and convenience for the young family throughout construction.

In terms of design, the homeowners selected a modern colour scheme that was stylish without being too bold. A standout feature of the new kitchen is the impressive island bench, measuring approximately 3 metres long and 1.4 metres wide, with a unique shape reminiscent of a football oval. The use of stunning stone for the island benchtop enhanced its appeal and made it the focal point of the space. Additionally, the skylights positioned above the kitchen introduced an abundance of natural light, creating a sense of openness and space.

Working with Alan and Justyna was a truly enjoyable experience filled with memorable moments. Daily interactions were light-hearted and fun, with plenty of laughter and playful banter – often with Alan stepping in as the mediator. The journey included late nights, countless cups of coffee, and even shared dinners, all contributing to a strong working relationship. The exceptional quality of the finished renovation reflects the trust and collaboration between our team and our wonderful clients, as highlighted in their glowing testimonial.
