Bright, Safe and Functional: A Bathroom Transformation for Independent Living
This renovation was all about creating a fresh, functional, and safe bathroom for an elderly client living independently with the support of her nearby son. Her old bathroom had seen better days; it was run down, hard to keep clean, and poorly designed for her needs. The existing tiling gave it a cold, institutional feel, and the layout was far from practical, with the bathroom door opening directly into the shower.
Originally, the client simply wanted to replace what was there, keeping the same layout to stay within budget. However, after discussing the benefits of improving functionality and safety, our team recommended reconfiguring the space. By swapping the shower and vanity locations, we completely eliminated the door clash and created a more open, accessible layout. The addition of grab rails and a walk-in shower further enhanced safety and ease of use, with no shower door needed, which means less cleaning and reduced risk of slips or falls.
The renovation involved a full strip out, new waterproofing, termite protection, retiling, repainting, and replacement of all fittings and fixtures. Neutral tones and crisp white walls brightened the space, giving it a fresh, inviting look. Beaumont Tiles’ Omniform Beige flooring paired beautifully with Casper White Gloss wall tiles, complemented by Reece Plumbing’s Mizu Drift and Posh Domain fittings for a sleek, modern finish.
The result is a dramatic transformation: a bright, clean, and easy-to-maintain bathroom that perfectly suits the client’s needs and provides lasting comfort and peace of mind.
