In the heart of Benalla, among century-old homes, we undertook transforming a small Victorian-era house into a modern living space. Built over 100 years ago, this home needed a blend of contemporary functionality and its original character.
Our client wanted more space, including a new kitchen, walk-in pantry, dining area, living room, and alfresco space. They aimed to add modern features while maintaining the home's classic charm. The challenge was to seamlessly integrate the new extension with the existing structure.
To achieve this, we selected materials that complement both the old and new. We installed engineered timber flooring throughout the new areas and replaced the old, rusting corrugated iron roofing with new Colorbond iron for durability and a cohesive look. In the kitchen and dining spaces, we used laminate cabinetry and stone benches for a fresh, modern touch. The timber weatherboards matched the original exterior, creating a unified appearance.
One key challenge was connecting the new roof with the old. We re-pitched the existing roof to ensure a smooth and aesthetically pleasing transition.
The design of the extension was modern, providing a clean contrast to the existing home. The finishes and colours were chosen to create a cohesive and inviting space.
The result is a remarkable transformation, especially evident in the back of the house, where the new extension blends perfectly with the original structure.
