Ferntree Gully, Mornington Kitchen Renovation

The project involved renovating an original Brick veneer house that had a small kitchen concealed behind walls and doors, typical of its era. The main goals were to create more living and kitchen space, upgrade the long-overdue kitchen, and improve the flow throughout the main areas of the house.

The scope of works consisted of removing a central load-bearing wall, supplying, and installing a new set of central stairs across the entire width of the living room, installing six skylights, constructing a new kitchen, and closing off two large windows. These changes transformed the property into a large open-plan living area.

Throughout the project, we had to address several considerations. This included using structural steel to support the conventionally framed roof and carefully planning how to bring the steel into the property. Additionally, the family chose to live in the house during the renovation, which presented challenges in ensuring their safety and maintaining accessibility, particularly for the young family members.

Regarding design choices, the owners selected colours that provided a modern flair to the kitchen area without being overly bold. The island bench, measuring approximately 3m long and 1.4m wide, became a focal point in the kitchen, resembling a football oval in the heart of the space. The choice of stunning stone for the bench added to its appeal. The skylights installed above the kitchen created the illusion of a larger area.

Our daily interactions with the clients, Alan and Justyna, were filled with hilariously funny moments. Each day brought about a lively banter between Justyna and our team, with Alan often playing the role of a mediator. We shared late nights, numerous cups of coffee, and enjoyable dinners throughout the construction process. The high quality of work delivered is a testament to the amazing testimonial provided by our awesome clients.
